Rare Mining Gems

Is there a use for the rare gems you get through mining? I'm pretty sure that you used to get them for recipes and stuff for stupid ML items but obviously those aren't introduced (Which isn't a bother at all).

The 6 rare gems are:

Turqoise
Ecru Citrine
Fire Ruby
Perfect Emerald
Blue Diamond
Dark Saphire

Also, you are supposed to be able to get regular gems semi-often from mining as well after reading a book in Tel Mur (Gargoyle City). I don't think this is enabled at the moment. Could it be? I'm pretty sure they had a better drop rate than the 'rare gems' (Hence, rare and regular)
